I've never used or owned on of these and bought this thinking that I would use it for flour tortillas. I almost sent it back after using it the first time because I couldn't get the dough balls to properly flatten. They were a half inch thick and about 4 inches round. I used wax paper as others suggested. I ended up rolling them out by hand anyway to flatten them out more. I then watched a Youtube video, figured out I was using it upside down for starters and also that these are best used for corn tortillas. I have since successfully used it to flatten flour tortillas. The problem starts when I pull off the wax paper, the tortilla dough starts to shrink so I still had to roll them to get them flattened to the size I wanted. I am keeping it because I still want to make the corn tortillas it's designed for. I think it will work good for those since they are not made of sticky flour. It flattens very good when used properly.
