I was given an old fridge because the water valve went out and the repairman wanted to charge the old owners of the fridge $200 to fix it. Lets be honest a 20 year old fridge is not really worth that since something else may fail later.I got the fridge diagnosed the problem as a bad water valve and went to the local parts store and they wanted $89 for the part I compaired their part to my old part. Yep right part. Wrong price.I came home found this part for less than $30 delivered. ordered Saturday had it by Friday. Installed it Friday evening in about 20 min. Cold water and ice now working fine. That was a month ago as I wanted to wait and see how it worked over a short time span. works perfect. The funny thing about this part is that it is exactly the same part made in the same mexican factory that the part at the local parts store was made in.The outside of the box states "Whirlpool Corporation FACTORY CERTIFIED PARTS" not my caps but thats the way it is on the box. Fits most Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, and KitchenAid brand refrigerators. Made in US (funny tag on side of part says Mexico but maybe they mean the box) Code 131201 Valve kit 4318046.If you want water and ice through the door and you can use a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench then you too can do it yourself and save $170 off of paying a repairman to do it for you.I would buy this part again in a second.UPDATE as of 7/11/13 still working like a champ. Makes more ice faster than my 2 year old LG fride upstairs does. Do not hesitate to buy this fill valve it has been worth every penny and then some.Update as of 7/17/14 still working like a champ. My daughter got her first real home after college and she inherited the fridge I put this valve in and it is working great still. I would not hesitate to buy this valve again.I was looking for a refrigerator water valve assembly to replace the original one that I was having issues with, every time I shut of the ice maker it was still pulling water into the ice tray causing the water line to freeze. In other words the valve was getting stuck and not shutting down and stopping the water from passing into the ice maker when shut off. After some research, I found out that after years the water valve can become clogged or defective due to the hardness in the water and over time they will fail to operate like normal. I found this water valve to match the original one for much cheaper than other on-line part stores, and installation took all but 20 mins. It was a easy change for a DIY: Just shut off the water line, unplug the frig. , remove the back lower cover from the frig. and disconnect and unscrew all connections. Some water will drain out of the lines so have a bowl and towel handy. Keep in mind when changing these water valves they are made of plastic you don't need to over tighten the plastic nuts to the inlet lines. Also always check your connections for leaks and tug on the connections to make sure there nice and tight. I also took the time to brush off the dust on the coils to improve the efficiency of the refrigerator. It's has been a few days and the replacement is working fine up to now. My frig is a kenmore side by side from 1996. No more freezing in the line.Gradually, my water dispenser quit working on my fridge, then the ice maker was making hollow cubes very few and far between. I installed this water valve on my Kenmore Frigidaire and it cured the problem. Contrary to some of the other reviews on here regarding water leaks, this water valve has quick connect fittings on it and you must make sure that your lines are fully pressed into and seated properly in their respective connections. You must make sure you're cutting your lines straight instead of at an angle and periodically check for leaks for at least the first 24 hours as some can be caused by manufacture defects regardless of the brand. I'm not a big fan of quick connects and I prefer the old style where they threaded on with a plastic nut, but it's still cheaper than having to buy a whole new fridge.Own a 44" KitchenAid side by side built in unit.Finding the location of this part was a challenge. It's located ON TOP of the unit, seen only after you roll out this behemoth.Easy to replace! Just follow these steps.....Turn off water cold water "T", unplug the fridge @ wall.Unscrew the two screws that hold the valve to the fridge frame.Place towel under valve,Disconnect 2 electrical plugs (remember and/or mark with a sharpie which goes to which side).Use wrench to loosen the (water in)copper compression nut.Use fingers to loosen the 2 plastic (water out) nuts.Reverse the steps with the new valve. This should take care of MOST problems! In my case, I DID NOT get ice within 6 hours...(I did get ice if I added 6 ounces of water to the ice bin and waited.. so I determined that the ice maker parts were ok).I removed the Ice Maker unit itself (3 screws in the freezer).I noticed that the water supply tube was "frozen over"Using a hair drier and/or shooting hot water with a turkey baster/syringe, I was able to clear the ice to a point 4 inches up the tube.Reset the Ice maker (3 screws)... waited 6 hours...NOW...LOTS OF ICE!This confirms my internet research...that the most common reason for no ice is either a broken valve, and/or a clog in the water line (ice...filter...kink...etc..)Good Luck!Great product. Very long deliveryNot very good pictureGreat!
