This Fondue Pot is not our neighbors’ fondue pot.The Alva Nori fondue pot is a far cry from the kitschy contraptions of my parents’ youth. This is a solidly built, beautifully crafted piece of cookware. The cast iron construction feels substantial and heats evenly, while the scratch-resistant enamel coating assures easy cleanup (and a hallelujah to that). The Alva comes with eight fondue forks – perfect for a small gathering of fellow adventurous (or maybe just slightly nostalgic) friends.Fondue's origins are actually very respectable. Forget the neon-orange cheese of the 80s. This dish has a rich history, tracing back to Switzerland's mountain regions. Legend has it that resourceful farmers used fondue as a way to stretch out cheese and bread during harsh winters.Look, I'm not saying fondue is going to be the next big culinary trend. But if it were up to me, it would. As I’ve loved sukiyaki and shabu shabu (Japanese “fondues”) for many years, I now also love making all the many types of fondue, in this Alva pot.But even if you’re not going to make fondue every week or every months, for a fun and interactive dinner party with a touch of throwback charm, this fondue pot absolutely delivers.
