You really get a feeling for the setting. There is much that needs improvement, which Texana and her vet husband try to do their part in. I hope that in real life there are people there doing that as well.The mystery is well done and we learn about the 'saint-maker,' the man who made beautiful carvings of saints and animals. It turns out that he was no saint himself, but the reverse.
