Barbara Hershey shines in this understated gem of a movie. The Baby Maker came out in 1970 so the characters are much more muted than the movie characters of today but you still get a sense of their inner struggles in this complicated film about surrogacy. It was a great decision to contrast the hippie ways of Trish (Barbara Hershey) with the middle class lifestyle of The Wilcoxes (Sam Groom and Collin Wilcox-Horne). Although they come from different perspectives the film does a superb job in showing how the notion of family is strong enough to chip away at the strongest ideologies.
