I bought a used RV three years ago. It had the double door Norcold with ice maker. I turned it on, it ran a few hours and quit. I called Norcold and found out FROM THEM that there was an over temp sensor that shuts it off if the coils get too hot. However it does not reset when it cools down. They would not tell me how to reset it, saying I had to take it to a dealer. The closest was 40 miles away. Got there and all they did was reset the sensor with a magnet. It took all of 30 seconds and cost me $30 plus fuel for a 70 mile round trip and a wasted morning. I bought a magnet and since then have had to reset it at least once a month. Now the kicker, they keep calling me about the recall. I tell them it was done and definitely mentioned the sensor reset issue. They do not accept what I say and insisted I take it into a dealer. Then when I refused as I was not willing to waste any more of my time on it, they wanted serial number of the unit and pictures of the sensor in place. I told them they are free to come out and do their own info gathering and pictures. They refused and said they would send a certified registered letter "which I must comply with." Ha. I told them to put me on the do not contact list. If they had made note of that first call they would have all the info. And FYI a cheap add on band aid does not fix a recall. They should have fixed the problem and replaced the unit.We have this model without the ice maker. It lasted two months beyond the warranty expiration. We left the RV for the day, only to come back to an error message on the refrigerator. Upon contact with a repair tech, he walked us through a couple trouble shooting strategies, including holding a magnet over the heat release switch, so as to close that switch. Well, it closed, the error light went away, and the unit still does not operate. The tech was baffled when additional trouble shooting strategies did not work. He suspects a something-or-other blew out (I cannot remember the name of the part). We do have an extended warranty, but will still have a $400 deductible. When reading about this refrigerators, they can catch and start fires when over-heated. We were fortunate. I will be talking to the tech about removing this piece of junk and replacing it with a residential refrigerator. Made in the USA is meaningless if the product blows-up just after a year of occasional use.Very much over priced and we call it the never cold refrigerator. After years of trouble with their product one would think that improvement would be made. I guess to much money is made with replacing units and MONEY is the name of Norcold game.I have done RV repairs for years and worked on several thousand refrigerators. Norcold problems started a number of years ago whenTheford corp. that makes RV toilet stools bought Norcold then things literally started going into the crappier. They reduced the qualityin the most important part of the refrigerator the boiler this is where the heat is exchanged with the fluid. Their grand plan was toput in very thin metal witch will deteriorate very quickly. However part of the fluid in them was flammable and caused fires. So did they fix this problem? absolute not they just put a band aid fix on it called an over temp sensor. Also they changed how thecooling units were made it went from being hand welded to robot welded (you know they had to cut cost some how)So keep this in mind if you own an RV with a Norcold in it.I have this item in my RV and for the price I would expect a lifetime of enjoyment, however this is not the case, this item is way over priced, is not working properly, temp will be 32 degrees in the morning and 65 degrees in the evening. We have lost contents and gave up and on our last trip just used ice to cool it for what we needed. I am told by technicians that it is a sealed unit and they cannot add coolant and the unit needs to be replaced therefore it is worthless. You can bet it will not be this item.
