I bought a dehydrator a few months ago because my kids roll through jerky and I thought I could save some money making it myself. Not sure if I am saving money, but we have had fun making it so far. I did some research on prepared cures because while the ones I did from recipes were good, but needed to be refrigerated if I wanted them to last. While researching, I saw a lot of positive feedback for Uncle Abe's on curing websites and decided to give it a try. The same package was half price when ordered direct from the manufacturer, but the cost of shipping made the overall price the same if you have Prime shipping. The package comes with seasoning and instacure #1, and the side of the box has a recipe for 5 lbs of meat. I only had 2 lbs of London Broil, so I calculated how much I would need. Once measured, you add water and meet and start curing. We ended up curing about 24 hours, but just because some other things came up. By the time it went in the dehydrator, all the cure had been soaked in by the meat. Cured as normal. The jerky was awesome! Within a day, half of it was gone and that was only because I wouldn't let my kids just keep eating it. Not too salty, no fake smoke taste, just nice jerky flavor. Kind of like a mild slim jim without too much heat. This box can do about 30 lbs of jerky.
