Our fridge ice maker is terrible and we use a lot of ice, so I purchased this for our family. I see a lot of reviews where people had trouble with the water line popping out of the back of the ice maker. You need to remove the blue clip, push the line all the way in, and then put the clip back in to secure it.It makes enough ice to keep up with us. It does make some noise, but we have it in the laundry room so we don't notice it much. As other reviews have said it frosts up a bit so we defrost ours the 1st of every month. No problem. Hopefully it will work for a good long while, because we love it.We have friends with this ice maker (diff lable, same item) for 4 yrs it produced ice more than adequately. Of course now it cost more than 2x as much, still it is a luxury we will benefit from. We double filter our water even though our water is pretty darn good from the tap. Quality water is the key to longevity, when it comes to ice makers. They must be installed on a lever surface, both front to back and left to right. Water produces vapor as it freezes so it must be de-frosted periodically. ENJOY.This ice machine worked fine for 3 months and then overheated and died. I called Asurian since I had purchased an extended service plan and they told me that they did Nothing until the manufacture warranty has expired. So I called Whynter customer service and was first told that they had to do phone diagnosis. Three attempts at doing that brought us to the point that they had No local repair. I was transferred to Ailene R who told me that free return was only for 3 months and since my machine was 3.5 months old usually the customer had to pay for the return and Whynter would repair or replace and pay to sent it back. She told me that she was going to talk to supervisor to see if an accommodation could be made. She returned and said that they would pay and send a shipping label but I had to rebox the machine and get it to a Fedex store. I then went looking for Box materials that would hold the machine and found some throw a way's at an appliance store. I re-boxed and called Ailene R again and she immediately sent a return label. It took a week to get to California. Ailene sent me a e-mail with a proposal to replace the ice maker with a better model. We agreed on the settlement and I am now waiting for my new icemaker. I must admit my dealings with Asurian and the initial agents at whynter were not very customer friendly. Right now I have no idea what good the Asurian policy was or if my non coverage will be put on the replacement. If I had not lucked in to finding Ailene R who was the only agent looking to actually help me thru the situation, I probably would have given up. Customers need to be aware that Asurian is worthless until item is out of warranty. There is No local repairs. If your purchase breaks you are looking at one month to finally get a replacement. Whynter at least replaces the item with a better than original item which makes the time and effort worth it.My wife and I had a Whynter ice maker in our house in NJ for 8 years and never had any issues. We recently moved to Georgia and had a UIM-155 unit delivered and installed . After moving here we had an issue with the unit not dispensing ice. It would freeze too fast and was unable to push the ice out. I contacted JOSE with Whynter and he was extremely helpful. We tried a few trouble shoots which did not work. He then sent me a return label and directions on how to do it. I sent it back and within a few weeks I had a brand new unit back in my kitchen making ice. I have recommended this unit to numerous who are very happy with it. If you ever have and issue hopefully you will get to deal with JOSE he was awesome. This thing has caused so much devastation to my home.Lets start with prefacing I bought this ice maker because my fridge doesn't have a built in one and I don't have the space where my fridge goes to get one that has one already part of it. I bought this because I wanted ice readily available. Due to issues with some side projects I never got around to hooking it up until about 3 years ago, even though I purchased it in 2011.The plastic hose it came with is trash. Save yourself the heart ache and throw it out, along with the plastic connector it comes with to hold it in place. My initial installation of this machine I used the parts that came with it, as most people would. I ran the line behind my dishwasher, under the sink, and put a T in. Due to the cheap construction of the provided parts I had issues with the waterline disconnecting from the back of the unit. Fortunately the first few times it happened I was home, so it wasn't a big deal. I tried taping the line down in different ways to get it to stay in place, and eventually thought I had it right because it went a week without disconnecting. Boy was I wrong....I came home to find it disconnected after being at work for 8 hours. I walked in the door to water spraying with such pressure it was soaking my ceiling. It ruined the ceiling where it hit it, and FLOODED my dining room, kitchen, and my living room. It took me the entire evening of running a carpet cleaner to get my carpet dry, and I mopped up more buckets of water than I cared to count. It ended up destroying my floor anyway despite my efforts, causing the boards to warp. After that debacle I went to the hardware store and found a brass fitting to use in place of the provided plastic one. That fixed THAT problem. A few weeks later, I noticed I was hearing a hissing sound coming from behind my dishwasher. I couldn't find what it was. Later I came to realize it was the line for the ice maker. The cheap hose that came with it must not have been able to handle the water pressure from a proper connection and split apart, again flooding my kitchen and causing further warping in my floor.I then went to the hardware store again, to replace the line with a better one. After that I had no more issues with it, for a year or so. It worked as it should have, with the occasional need to turn it off to let it defrost. At about year 3 the defrosting required became more and more frequent. It got to the point where I would have to defrost it every 2 -3 days because of how much frost would build up in the unit. Finally after the last time I defrosted it, the unit quit working all together when I plugged it back in.Save yourself the headache. This thing caused damage to my home that cost thousands to fix, and even after correcting the issues with it still stopped working after only a few years.I am writing this review kind of late. I've recently started looking for a replacement unit, and checked my order history to make sure I didn't buy the same one again, and decided to warn the unsuspecting off from making the same mistake.I had a professional plumber install this - it stopped working after 1 month! After a bunch of troubleshooting the manufacturer wants me to send them a check for $660 to cover the freight costs of them sending me a new unit as well as paying to send this unit back to them! Worst company ever! This is one great machine. Remember that the metal arm when up doesn't make ice, and when down does make ice.We had it installed by a plumber and couldn't be happier. The condo we bought has the fridge on the other side of the kitchen from the water lines so buying a fridge with an icemaker wasn't an option. We also have to reface the kitchen cupboards anyway and will design the doors with custom 'venting', which will allow us to hide the icemaker and still have it breathing and chugging happily along behind closed doors.Highly recommended. The fitting that holds the water line in failed instantly. Could not find the fitting at any plumbing stores. Have to return. I need to get the same one now as I have already cut the hole.Nice looking unit works good and good value for the moneyNous l’avons installé dans le bateau en remplaçant elle a bien fonctionné toute l’été et elle est silencieuse je l’adore
