It's not the best slinger, but it's an outstanding snowball maker. The hinge is clearly designed ti separate if there is too much torque applied. This allows it to break in two without causing permanent damage to the device. It quickly and easily snaps back into place without any damage. Makes great snow balls. If you want to use it to sling, I suggest mass-producing snowballs with the device then picking them up or loading them onto the slinger by hand before launching. It does take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you can throw fairly far. The idea is to keep your hands dry/warm, and that it does well. After buying two, I ended up buying a third.
